Bootleg Bloggers

I've got to hand it to Fan Made Recordings. For every gig I attend in Melbourne there's a very good chance that they're recording the show and it'll appear on their blog at some point within the next week. And I like the chance to listen again. I close my eyes and press my ear buds tightly into my ears and it's almost like I'm back in the sweating, seething mass of the show rather than the sweating, seething mass of the number nineteen tram at 8am on a Monday morning.

Last Wednesday and Thursday night saw The Tote host US garage psych destroyers Thee Oh Sees and sure enough, FMR already have both shows up, with support bands (Super Wild Horses and Boomgates were my pick of the bunch).

Thee Oh Sees - Enemy Destructs

2010 saw the site offer some fantastic sets by The Fall, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, My Disco, Pivot, and the amazing 10 drummer Boredoms set at The Forum (even if it doesn't quite translate as well into a live recording)

There are a bunch of other Australian blogs bootlegging local and international touring artists; Turn it up!!, Sydney Tapes and Sky Hut are also stand outs, and between them they've archived hundreds of live recordings. These people aren't just bootleggers, they're musical historians. Bravo!
